The metallic stench of blood tainted the air, mingling with death's awful odor. A small cat, if you could even call him that, staggered through the clan's territory, muffling a mewl of pain with each step. Oddeye's breaths were shallow and labored as he struggled on, stumbling and falling more than once. Life, in general, had not been kind to the tom who, mercifully, was reaching the age where most wild cats should be fearing for their lives. But, if it was simply age that killed him, Oddeye should count himself lucky. As it was, starvation, blood loss, and exhaustion hindered him. He was completely dilirious with hunger. So impared were his senses that he couldn't even detect the unmistakable scent of other cats.
Where am I going? he wondered dimly. Completely dissoriented, he couldn't even determine whether it was night or day, or even what season it was. He certaintly had no idea where he was going, or what he was going to do when he got there. Surely he would die. The wilderness was no place for a cat in such a condition. No forest was safe for him. His home had been Hell, and here he would surely die of either the wounds or hunger, if something did not come by and kill him sooner.
He staggered into a clearing shrouded in a thick fog. Is this death? he wondered. Perhaps, for once, StarClan was showing a rare bit of mercy and had decided to take his life now. Alas! He had chosen a most unwelcome place to arrive. He fell, this time unable to get back up, in NightClan's camp. He was barely conscious. His whole body seemed the throb painfully, hunger clawed violently at his stomach. He mumbled, "It will all be over soon. In death, neither pain nor hunger exist. Only nothingness. Blessed, wonderful nothingness."

Fallensoul growled and darted towards the scent of an outsider in his search for Tigerlily. In his haste he tripped over someting white. He turned to face the object and froze, realizing it was a cat. Amber eyes wide, he stared at the tiny thing. " Uhm... are you okay?" He asked, a little shooken.

Oddeye scarcely saw Fallensoul approaching. Rather, he knew the tom was near him when he felt paws collide painfully with his side.. He let out a shrill, frightened yelp. This wasn't supposed to be happening! He was dead. Wasn't he? And, if he wasn't, where was he? It all felt so unreal, like he was trapped in some strange world between life and death. His rational mind had disappeared, overshadowed by the pain and hunger. Now so had most of his other senses.
He just barely heard Fallensoul question him. His mouth hung open, his jaw slack and reluctant to obey his commands to move. Even when it did, his vocal chords refused to make a sound. Grimacing at the effort, he could merely shake his head in response to the tom. He again made an attempt to answer coherrently, managing to croak, "...No." Oh! It hurt! A task so simple as speaking sent sharp pangs of pain through Oddeye's throat, persumably from lack of water. No, now he knew that he was, unquestionably, alive. Death, once it had finally come, was painless. While the path to it may be full of agony, once the blackness itself takes you under its wing, all feeling ceases to exist. He was, unfortunately, alive.
But how much longer could that last? Even in his confused, dilisuional state, he realized that the cat in front of him could quite easily kill him. He also knew that, if he was not yet dead, he was very close to it. But, strangely enough, death didn't frighten him. No, he welcome the concept with open paws.

" You best go see Tigerlily," Fallensoul meowed sternly. " What are you doing here? If Poisonstar was here, he'd rip you into tiny pieces." Fallensoul nudged the confused cat gently. " Hurry up, before someone sees me out here. You look like a white vole, your so filthy and small." Fallensoul flexed his claws into the moist earth and watched to see what the cat would do.

Oddeye squeaked as he felt Fallensoul nudge him. He made an attempt to get up, finding that it was in vain. All it served to do was cause him more pain. He managed to stand for, perhaps, a half of a second, before his legs, once again, fell out from underneath him. He hit the ground with a low moan. He looked up helplessly at Fallensoul, trying not to think about who Poisonstar was. Or what Poisonstar could, potentially, do to make his death even more painful than it would be already.
He tried to force himself to speak. Once again, his vocal chords wouldn't obey and he remained silent. His vision swam, for a brief, sweet, moment it felt as if he would lose consciousness. In that instant, everything was black. But, as quickly as the faintness came on, it passed. He swore silently, realizing that, if he had lost consciousness, he most likely would have died.
Oddeye implored, "Water..." He choked on the word, his whole body trembled as he coughed violently. When would the pain stop? When would he, at last, be freed of the agony? He hoped it would end soon, whether he died or his wounds were tended to. He just wanted it to stop hurting. But no. StarClan denied him even that small mercy.

Fallensoul scooped up the cat, surprised at how light he was. He held him gently between his jaws by the scruff to help minimize the amount of pain. Taking quiet, gentle pawsteps he headed towards the camp. The reason he didn't run was because he didn't want to help the elderly tom. The deputy wondered how Poisonstar would react.

Tigerlily looked at Fallensoul, "I'll heal him here so if Poisionstar kick him out he won't die," she mewed softly.

Oddeye flinched as he felt Fallensoul life him from the ground. He expected to be thrown to the side and attacked and braced himself for further injuries. But, much to his surprise, it seemed that Fallensoul was being fairly gentle with him. He grew quite confused at the concept. From past experiences, he'd discovered that cats were cruel creatures to be feared, not, in any way, gentle or trustworthy. It was as if everything he'd thought he'd known was being questioned and challenged. It was not a welcome feeling. (Sorry I've taken so long to reply. I've been very busy in my life offline and I've been having really bad writer's block. I actually still do.)

"Don't worry," Tigerlily purred gently to Oddeye as to clam a kit.

A black she-cat padded into the area with bright eyes. "I heard yowling from all away across the camp and I swear upon starclan that I smelled a rogue. The first thing I thought was 'Oh no, not the RA again... " Her voice trailed off as she spotted the wounded tom on the dirt. At first she was about to lunge at the poor excuse for a cat but then realized the presense of the deputy and the medicine cat.

Fallensoul nodded to the newcomer and continued onward until he reached the camp.
